Don’t talk to the floor while presenting

Some presenters on a stage start walking around a bit looking at the floor while talking to the audience. Don’t be one of these presenters. Look at your audience while presenting. It is tempting to talk and look at the floor as you want to avoid distraction while you carefully think about the words you want to say and want to avoid forgetting something important. As the audience may be distracting you start looking at the floor. Sometimes you look up at your audience. Recognize this?

Your audience is in the meantime wondering who you are talking to. They see a presenter walking around looking mostly at the floor and sometimes looking up at them. Maybe he looks up to the audience to check if they are still there… A presenter looking at the floor while talking starts looking like a professor who is processing his thoughts carefully in his own world. It is very difficult to make a connection with the audience while talking to the floor for long periods at a time. Look up and face your audience while speaking. It makes you look a far better presenter which more confidence and it will make it much easier to make a connection with your audience.
