A great way of building and strengthening your professional network is by presenting in front of a targeted audience. But presenting in front of a group of people is one thing, connecting with them individually will enforce the networking effect. Before and after your presentation you can speak with individuals from your audience. But maybe the group is too large and you don’t know the members of your audience to be able to contact them later. What to do?
There are a number of things you can do. For example give them a hand-out with some additional added information and your contact details. Next is to create a need for your audience to reach out to you. For example make some extra high value information available on your website which they can download in exchange for leaving their name and e-mail address. By means of this you are building your e-mail list and can reach out to them with a personalized message to further connect with an aim to strengthen your network. Sometimes you see members of the audience making photos of your slides using their smart phones. Tell them that you will send the slides to them. Make it easy by for example:
• Provide easy to remember website address were they can obtain the slides (in exchange for e-mail address + name)
• Provide a hand-out with the above mentioned information
• Ask them to leave their business card in a defined box so you can contact them.
• You can also think about some more technical advanced options such as showing a QR code on your presentation screen that that can scan with their smartphone or with an app on their smartphone
making scanning the picture on the screen to get access to additional information (virtual augmented reality data).
