What to do if your audience is getting distracted?

When your audience is sitting behind their laptops it is easy for them to get distracted from your presentation. It is hard for you to compete against the world of internet, e-mail, and other matters that your audience can see and do on their laptops. How to avoid this? Simply ask your audience to close their laptops before you start your presentation and tell them that they won’t need to use their laptops at the moment. Whenever they do need their laptops you can instruct your audience to start using their laptops. The book Public Speaking Excellence includes an entire chapter with tips and tricks on how best to start your presentation.
